Abstract

This article discusses the implications of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations for physicians, who are now legally accountable as personal information controllers or processors. It highlights the heightened responsibility to safeguard sensitive patient information, the potential legal penalties for breaches, and the unique challenges posed when managing data from prominent individuals and during academic or research activities. Emphasis is placed on the need for stricter confidentiality practices, responsible use of technology, and adherence to security protocols to maintain patient trust and comply with legal obligations.
