Abstract
Mentorship is a fundamental yet often underappreciated component of medical training. This editorial reflects on the author’s experiences as a mentor in a private community hospital, highlighting the responsibilities, rewards, and challenges of guiding interns with diverse educational backgrounds. Through informal case discussions, bedside teaching, and personal guidance, mentoring extends beyond clinical instruction to include professional and personal development. Drawing from formative experiences with mentors in medical school, residency, and fellowship, the author emphasizes patience, openness, and approachability as essential mentoring qualities. Ultimately, the editorial underscores the enduring impact of mentorship and the hope that mentees will, in turn, inspire and teach future generations.
